"Plumatella casmiana forms dense, flat, colonies of richly branched tubules. It is one of the few bryozoan species that occurs throughout the world, on every continent except Antarctica. Plumatella casmiana makes three types of statoblasts. One of these is very unusual because it germinates within minutes after it is released from the colony. Most other statoblasts delay their germination for many weeks or months." -- Timothy S. Wood
